Wall lights as part of the design

Wall lights sit at eye level, so people see them as much as they use them. A good wall light adds soft, indirect light, picks up the texture of the wall behind it, and works like a piece of decor even when it is switched off. That is why we choose lights that sit comfortably beside our tiles.

Materials and styles

  • Natural stone: alabaster, travertine and marble. Alabaster is slightly translucent, so it glows when lit, while travertine and marble add an earthy, solid feel.
  • Hand-glazed ceramic: the Shelby, Naturo and Harlow ceramic lights have glazes with a gentle, handmade variation.
  • Metal: the Moko Bronze brings a warm, aged tone that suits brass and bronze tapware.
  • Glass: the Caspia Frosted and similar designs give a softer, diffused light.
  • Sconces: the Caius, Bloom and Natale sconces have a more classic shape for hallways and bedrooms.

Sizes vary from compact designs around 120 x 85 mm and 150 x 70 mm to larger statement pieces, so check each product page for dimensions.

Where to place wall lights

  • Vanities: one light each side of the mirror lights your face evenly and avoids the shadows of a single downlight.
  • Bedsides: a wall light frees up the bedside table and puts light right where you read.
  • Hallways: a row of matching lights, evenly spaced, makes a long corridor feel calm and intentional.
  • Feature walls: mounted close to fluted, zellige or 3D texture tiles, a wall light grazes the surface and shows off every ridge.

In bathrooms, check each product page and keep lights outside the wet zones around the shower and bath. All hardwired lights need a licensed electrician.

Pair with your stone and finishes

Stone lights look at home next to marble and travertine tiles, and a bronze or brass-toned light ties in with gold tapware. For lighting that needs no wiring, see table lamps, or browse the full lighting range. Book a free design consultation for help choosing.

FAQs

How high should wall lights be mounted beside a bathroom mirror?

Around face height is the usual aim, often about 1600 to 1700 mm from the floor to the centre of the light. Place one on each side of the mirror for even light without shadows.

How far apart should hallway wall lights be spaced?

Many designers space them about 2 to 3 metres apart, depending on the light output and the length of the hallway. Keep the spacing even and align the lights with doors or artwork where you can.

Will my stone wall light look exactly like the photo?

Not exactly. Alabaster, travertine and marble are natural materials, so each piece varies a little in veining and tone. That variation is part of the appeal.

Can wall lights replace ceiling lights?

In a small room or as mood lighting, they can. Most rooms work best with layers, using ceiling lights for tasks and wall lights for a softer light in the evening.
