Fluted tiles at a glance

Fluted tiles have rounded vertical ribs that throw soft shadow lines across a wall. They add rhythm without colour, which is why they suit vanity walls, kitchen islands and shower niches. This collection brings fluted tiles together with our 3D texture tiles for every kind of ribbed or carved surface.

Natural stone flutes

Most flutes here are real stone, with natural variation in every rib:

  • Mini Bamboo: narrow rods on mesh in Carrara, Rome travertine, Utica limestone and Mint marble.
  • Super White Bamboo Marble Flute: long 30 x 900 mm strips for full-height walls.
  • Taj Mahal Bamboo: a natural stone flute in warm Taj Mahal stone.
  • Convex and Concave Natural Stone Flutes: rounded outwards or scooped inwards for different shadow effects.
  • 3D Flute Marble Mosaic: a honed natural stone flute feature.

These need sealing like any natural stone. See also marble tiles and travertine tiles.

Porcelain flutes

For no-seal flutes, choose Botticino 3D Flute Alabaster at 600 x 1200 mm, a porcelain feature wall tile, or the Bamboo Series porcelain mosaic. Large Bamboo White Matt gives wider flutes for a bolder line. The textured side of the collection adds Porcelanosa basketweave and linear designs, Noble Stone carved marble and Crema Marfil.

Design ideas

  • Run Mini Bamboo up the wall behind a floating vanity, with plain tiles elsewhere.
  • Wrap a kitchen island or bar front in fluted porcelain for a soft, curved look; see kitchen tiles.
  • Line a shower niche in a contrasting stone flute.
  • Use sage green Mint flutes for a gentle colour feature, or white marble for a calm one.

Finish exposed edges with a metal trim or a stone pencil border. Pick up sealer and cleaner in tile sealers, and pair a flute with matching flat stone from stone mosaic tiles.

FAQs

What is the difference between convex and concave flutes?

Convex flutes bulge outwards like rounded rods, which gives strong highlights and shadows. Concave flutes are scooped inwards, giving a softer, more subtle groove. Both read as vertical lines from across a room.

Should I choose mini or large bamboo flutes?

Mini bamboo has narrow ribs that look fine and delicate, and suits small walls, niches and splashbacks. Large bamboo has wider ribs that stay visible from further away, which suits full-height feature walls.

Are fluted tiles practical in a shower?

Yes, with care. Seal natural stone flutes well and clean the grooves regularly with a soft brush so soap does not build up. A porcelain flute needs no sealing and is easier to maintain.

How do I finish the edge of a fluted tile wall?

Most people use a slim metal trim, a stone pencil border or a mitred corner. Plan the finish with your tiler before you start, as the ribs make cuts more visible than on a flat tile.
