Hinges that match your handles

Hinges are easy to forget, but they sit in plain view on every open door. A silver hinge next to a black or brass handle can make a new door look unfinished. Our door hinge is solid stainless steel with a PVD finish in Aged Bronze, Brushed Gold, Brushed Nickel, Gunmetal or Matte Black, the same five colours as our door handles. It suits the Knurled, Linear and Luma ranges alike.

Hinges are sold as a pair with screws.

How many hinges does a door need?

• Standard internal doors usually hang on two hinges, though many builders fit three for a firmer swing.
• Taller or heavier doors, such as solid-core doors and doors above standard height, should have three hinges.
• Wardrobe and linen doors usually need two.

Count your doors, decide on two or three hinges per door, and order in pairs. If in doubt, ask your builder or carpenter what the door weight calls for.

Butt hinges explained

A butt hinge is the standard hinge for internal doors: two leaves joined by a pin, with one leaf recessed into the edge of the door and the other into the frame. When the door is closed only the knuckle shows, so the finish matters most when the door stands open. Swapping hinges is a simple upgrade if the new ones match the size of the existing recesses, so measure the old hinge before you buy.

For a door that looks right from every angle, match the hinges with door stops, and choose a lock for bathrooms and bedrooms.
