Why choose a wall hung vanity

A wall hung vanity floats above the floor. The tiles run right through to the wall, which makes a small bathroom feel larger and means you can mop under the cabinet in one pass. It also lets a feature floor tile or underfloor heating run uninterrupted.

The range

  • Aulic Briony 900mm and Curva 750mm: for ensuites, family bathrooms and smaller walls.
  • Aulic Voulari 900mm in Harvest Oak and Venetta framed in Walnut: framed fronts for a more detailed look.
  • Aulic Venetta Fluted 1200mm in Harvest Oak: the widest option, for main bathrooms. See 1200mm vanities.
  • Ballina 900mm package: from Serano Surfaces, with a Taj Mahal porcelain top, basin and LED mirror. See vanity packages.

The Aulic cabinets use drawers rather than doors, so everything is easy to reach. Browse more of the brand at Aulic.

Installation checklist

  • Wall strength: a cabinet with a stone or porcelain top carries real weight. Ask your builder for noggins or a support frame before the wall is sheeted.
  • Mounting height: you choose it. Set it so the finished basin rim suits the people using the room, allowing for the top and basin.
  • Plumbing: the waste and water come out of the wall, not the floor. Position them so they clear the drawers.
  • Tile first: tile the wall and floor behind and under the vanity for a clean finish and easy future changes.

Basins and taps

With a wall hung vanity, a wall mixer and spout keeps the benchtop clear and the look minimal. If you prefer a bench-mounted tap, choose a basin mixer that suits your basin: standard height for inset and under counter, tall for above counter. Concrete basins from Nood Co sit well on a timber-look cabinet.

Still deciding?

If your pipes come up through the floor or your wall is lightweight, compare floor standing vanities before you commit.

FAQs

Do wall hung vanities need special wall support?

Yes. The wall needs solid noggins or a frame behind the sheeting to carry the cabinet, top and basin. It is easiest to add during a renovation, so tell your builder early.

What height should a wall hung vanity be mounted at?

Most people work back from a comfortable basin rim height, then subtract the height of the top and basin. Agree on the figure with your installer before the plumbing is roughed in.

Can a wall hung vanity hold a stone top?

Yes, when it is fixed into a properly reinforced wall with the right fixings. Follow the supplied fixing instructions and use a qualified installer.

How does the plumbing work with an all-drawer vanity?

The waste and water pipes come out of the wall behind the cabinet, so their position has to suit the drawers. Check the cabinet's installation details and have your plumber set the pipe heights to match before the wall is tiled.
