The Pearl pendant wall light

The Lunara Pearl is a pendant wall light. It brings the look of a pendant, with an opal glass shade and brass detail, to a wall position rather than the ceiling. That makes it a good fit beside a bed, either side of a vanity mirror, or above a console or reading chair, where a hanging light from the ceiling would be in the way.

Opal glass spreads light evenly with no harsh hot spot, so the Pearl gives a soft, glowing light that suits bedrooms and bathrooms.

Where pendants work best

  • Kitchen islands and benches: a row of pendants gives focused light over the work area and defines the space in an open-plan room.
  • Bedsides: a pendant or pendant-style wall light frees up the bedside table and keeps light at reading height.
  • Bathrooms: either side of the mirror, outside the wet zones, for even light on your face.
  • Entries and stairwells: one larger pendant makes a strong first impression and draws the eye up.

Choosing size and height

Size the shade to the space. Over an island, two or three pendants usually look better than one small one, spaced evenly with room at each end. Over a benchtop, a common guide is 750 to 900 mm from the bench to the bottom of the shade. In a hallway, keep plenty of head height clear for tall family members.

Hardwired pendants need a licensed electrician, so plan the position before you tile or paint.

More lighting to pair with it

Our lighting range is mostly wall lights and table lamps, with more designs in the full lighting collection. Pendants look best against a considered backdrop, so pair yours with kitchen tiles, a splashback or bathroom tiles in a finish that catches the light. FAQs

How high should a pendant hang over a kitchen bench?

A common guide is 750 to 900 mm between the benchtop and the bottom of the shade. Go higher if your household is tall or the shade is wide, so it does not block views across the room.

What is a pendant wall light?

It is a light fixed to the wall that has the look of a hanging pendant. It suits spots where a ceiling pendant would get in the way, such as beside a bed or a mirror.

How many pendants should go over a kitchen island?

Two pendants suit a short island and three suit a longer one. Space them evenly and leave a clear margin at each end so they line up with the bench rather than crowding it.

Why choose opal glass for a pendant?

Opal glass is milky rather than clear, so it diffuses the globe and spreads light softly around the room. It avoids glare, which matters at eye level and beside a bed.
