Shades of blue

The blues here cover three broad families. Light blues feel soft and coastal. Teals sit between blue and green and bring a little warmth. Where to use blue tiles

Blue is a natural fit for bathrooms, showers and laundries, and it makes a bright kitchen splashback. Pale blues help a small room feel airy. Navy works best as a feature: a shower wall, a vanity wall or a run of subway tiles behind the cooktop. For floors, check the slip rating on each tile, as many blue tiles are wall-only. Outdoors, blue glass mosaics line pools, spas and water features, and pair well with light grey or cream pavers on the surround. Order a few samples and look at them wet and in full sun, as blue shifts a lot with light.

Pairing blue tiles

Grout: white grout gives a crisp, fresh look on blue subway and zellige. A soft grey grout is more forgiving in showers. Find options in tile grout.
