Why choose a slab?

A porcelain slab is a single sheet of tile big enough to cover a full splashback, shower wall or benchtop. With almost no grout lines, it looks like solid stone but keeps the benefits of porcelain: no sealing, high resistance to stains, heat and scratches, and easy cleaning. Every slab in this collection is porcelain.

Sizes and thicknesses

  • 3200 x 1600 mm: the largest format, for full-height walls and long benchtops.
  • 3200 x 1200 mm and 1600 x 3200 mm: for walls and narrower runs.
  • 1200 x 2700 mm: a floor-to-ceiling wall panel, such as Andes Warm White Matt Megaslab at 6 mm.

Slabs come in 6 mm and 12 mm. Thin 6 mm slabs are light enough for walls, splashbacks and cladding over existing tiles. Thicker 12 mm slabs are the usual choice for benchtops, vanity tops and island ends.

Looks in the range

  • Marble and stone: Statuario Venatino and Taj Mahal Full Body Porcelain MegaSlab, Arabescato Viola, Macchia Antica, Caravaggio Gold, White Dolamite Italian Megaslab and Ballet Megaslim. See marble tiles.
  • Onyx: Onice Reale tile and slab in deep, dramatic tones; see onyx tiles.
  • Terrazzo and stone: Norrock Terrazzo Look Megaslab, Tufa Xcut and Andes. See terrazzo and stone look tiles.
  • Colour: Lilac New York for a soft purple statement.

Several slabs match a smaller floor tile in the same range, so you can carry one look from the floor up the wall.

Planning a slab project

Slabs need specialist handling. Check that a 3.2 metre panel can travel through your doors, stairs or lift, and that your installer or stone fabricator works with large porcelain. Benchtops need cutting and edge finishing by a fabricator. The wall or floor must be flat, and a full bed of adhesive is essential.

Slabs work well with large format tiles on the floor and suit kitchen tiles, splashback tiles and shower tiles. More options are in Italian tiles. Book a free design consultation to plan the layout.

FAQs

Can a porcelain slab be used as a kitchen benchtop?

Yes. Porcelain slabs resist heat, stains and scratches, which makes them a practical benchtop surface. A 12 mm slab is the usual choice, cut and edged by a stone fabricator who works with porcelain.

What is the difference between a 6 mm and a 12 mm slab?

A 6 mm slab is thin and light, made for walls, splashbacks and covering existing surfaces. A 12 mm slab is stronger and is used for benchtops, vanity tops and floors that take more load.

What does full body porcelain mean?

In a full body slab, the colour and pattern run through the thickness of the material rather than sitting only on the surface. That makes cut edges and chips much less noticeable, which matters on a benchtop.

Can I use a slab on a shower wall?

Yes. A slab on a shower wall means almost no grout lines, so there is very little to clean or go mouldy. The wall must be waterproofed and flat, and the slab fixed by an installer experienced with large porcelain.
