Kitchen tiles for floors, splashbacks and outdoor kitchens: hard-wearing porcelain in travertine and stone looks, plus subway, kit kat and zellige, with slip ratings on every tile.

Kitchen floors that handle the traffic

The kitchen floor takes spills, dropped pans and constant foot traffic, so porcelain is the practical choice. It resists stains, needs no sealing and wipes clean. Matt is the most common finish in this collection because it hides marks and gives better grip than gloss. Look for P3 or higher on the tile page.

Popular kitchen floors here include Marvel Travertine Look in vein cut and cross cut, Travertine Bianco Veincut, Ivory Stone Look and Builders Range Bravo Travertine for warm stone tones, and Micro Cement White Textured for a soft concrete look. In an open-plan home, a 600 x 1200 mm tile carries from the kitchen into the dining and living areas with fewer grout lines. See large format tiles.

Splashbacks with personality

The splashback is where most kitchens show their character. Classic choices include Clovelly 2.0 White Subway, the Botanica Kit Kat Series and Beige or Brown Clay Matt Kit Kat. For a glossy, handmade finish, try Zellige Moroccan Square Handmade Tiles or the Mosman zellige look tile. For more ideas, browse splashback tiles, kit kat tiles and zellige tiles.

Indoor-outdoor kitchens

This collection also includes tiles in grip and external finishes rated P4 and P5. That means you can carry a similar look from the indoor kitchen out to an alfresco kitchen or barbecue area. For tiles made for outside, see outdoor tiles.

Tips for choosing kitchen tiles

  • Work with the benchtop: choose a floor a shade lighter or darker than the benchtop so the two do not compete.
  • Think about grout: a mid-grey or warm beige grout hides kitchen spills better than bright white on a floor.
  • Plan the splashback height: decide early whether the tiles stop under the wall cabinets or run up to the ceiling behind the rangehood.
  • Tie in the fittings: match the finish of your kitchen mixer and cabinet handles to warm or cool tile tones.

FAQs

What is the best floor tile for a kitchen?

A matt porcelain tile with a P3 slip rating suits most kitchens. It is hard-wearing, resists stains and needs no sealing. Mid tones such as beige, greige and travertine looks hide crumbs and marks better than pure white or black.

Should my kitchen floor match the living room floor?

In an open-plan home, one tile throughout usually looks best and avoids awkward transitions. A large format such as 600 x 1200 mm keeps grout lines to a minimum across the whole space.

Can I use marble or natural stone in a kitchen?

Yes, but stone is porous, so it must be sealed and spills such as wine, oil and lemon juice should be wiped up quickly. If you want the look with less care, choose a marble or travertine look porcelain.

Can I use kitchen floor tiles in an outdoor kitchen?

Only if the tile is rated for outdoor use. For an uncovered barbecue area, choose a grip or external finish with a P4 or P5 rating, and check the product page before you order.

How do I keep grout clean on a kitchen floor?

Sweep often and mop with a pH-neutral tile cleaner. For stained grout, use a dedicated grout cleaner and a stiff brush. Sealing cement grout once it has cured makes spills easier to wipe away.
