What counts as natural stone

Every tile in this collection is quarried stone, cut and finished rather than printed. That means each piece has its own veins, spots and colour shifts, and no two floors look the same. The range covers:

  • Marble: the largest group, from Carrara and Botticino to Viola, Mint and Rosso.
  • Travertine: Rome, Silver and Red travertine in tiles, mosaics and pavers.
  • Limestone: soft, chalky stone such as Crema Sienna and Portuguese Limestone.
  • Sandstone and bluestone for outdoor paving, plus stone cladding for walls.

Mosaics, tiles and pavers

Much of the range is mosaic sheets, which bring real stone into a shower floor or splashback. Look for Alhambra Flower patterns, Basketweave Carrara + Nero Dot, Herringbone Calacatta, Fishscale Carrara and Art Deco designs in stone mosaic tiles. Tumbled squares such as Botticino 100 x 100 and 305 x 305 mm, and Cinderella Grey 305 x 305 mm, suit floors with an aged look.

For floors and outdoors there is stone in 12 mm and 30 mm thicknesses, in sizes such as 610 x 406 mm and 610 x 610 mm and in French pattern sets, plus irregular crazy pave for paths and courtyards.

Finishes explained

  • Honed: smooth and matt, with a soft feel and better grip than polished.
  • Tumbled: rolled to soften the edges and surface for a worn, old-world look.
  • Polished: glossy and reflective, best kept to walls and dry floors.
  • Leather: a gently textured surface that hides marks well.

Sealing and care

Natural stone is porous, so it should be sealed after installation and resealed from time to time, more often in showers, kitchens and outdoors. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Acidic cleaners such as vinegar can dull marble, limestone and travertine. You will find penetrating sealers and stone cleaners in tile sealers and from Lithofin. Prefer the look without the upkeep? FAQs

How often does natural stone need to be resealed?

It depends on the stone, the sealer and how hard the area works. As a rough guide, check showers, kitchen floors and outdoor paving every year or two by dropping water on the surface. If it darkens quickly, it is time to reseal.

Why does my natural stone not match the sample exactly?

Stone is a natural material, so colour and veining change from block to block and even tile to tile. A sample shows the typical character, not every piece. Lay out tiles from several boxes before fixing to blend the variation evenly.

Can natural stone be used in a shower?

Yes. Honed and tumbled stone and mosaic sheets work well on shower floors and walls. Seal the stone before grouting and again after, and use a pH-neutral cleaner so soap and acidic products do not mark the surface.

What is the difference between 12 mm and 30 mm stone pavers?

12 mm stone is fixed with adhesive over a solid concrete slab, indoors or out. 30 mm pavers are thicker and stronger, which suits outdoor paving, pool surrounds and areas that take more load.

Is natural stone more slippery than tile?

It depends on the finish. Polished stone can be slippery when wet, while honed, tumbled and leather finishes give more grip. Choose a textured finish for bathrooms, pool areas and outdoors.
