Lamps for layered light

Ceiling lights do the heavy lifting, but table lamps make a room feel finished. A lamp gives a lower, warmer pool of light that is easier on the eyes in the evening and lets you switch the main lights off. In a bedroom, a pair of bedside lamps adds symmetry. In a living room, a lamp in a dark corner makes the whole space feel bigger and more inviting.

Our table lamps

The range includes Lunara designs such as the Doluce, Artdomus, Anna and Ollo modern table lamps. Materials include travertine, marble and smoked glass, so each lamp works as a decorative object even when it is switched off.

Stone bases are heavy and stable, which suits bedsides and hallway consoles where a lamp might get bumped. Glass lamps feel lighter and suit smaller tables and shelves.

No electrician required

Every lamp here plugs into a standard power point and turns on with an in-line switch on the cord. That makes table lamps the easiest lighting upgrade you can make. They suit renters, they can move from room to room, and they are a simple way to try a new material before committing to fixed wall lights in the same style.

Styling a lamp with stone and tile

A stone lamp echoes the materials around it. Place a travertine lamp on a vanity bench or console near travertine tiles, or a marble base in a room with marble tiles or other natural stone. Smoked glass sits well with darker timber and black hardware.

Think about scale too. A lamp should look in proportion with the table it sits on, and the shade should be wide enough to hide the globe from where you sit.

FAQs

How tall should a bedside lamp be?

Aim for the bottom of the shade to sit around chin height when you are sitting up in bed. That keeps the globe out of your eyes while still lighting a book.

Do these table lamps need to be installed?

No. They plug into a standard power point and switch on with an in-line switch on the cord, so you can set them up yourself.

How do I clean a marble or travertine lamp base?

Dust it with a soft, dry cloth and wipe marks with a cloth dampened in plain water. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, which can etch or dull natural stone.

Where should a table lamp go in a living room?

Put lamps where the ceiling light does not reach well, such as beside a sofa, on a sideboard or in a dark corner. Spreading light at different heights makes the room feel more comfortable at night.
