What is a wall top assembly?

A wall top assembly is a pair of individual wall taps, one for hot and one for cold. Each tap sits over its own valve in the wall. They are a traditional alternative to a single-lever wall mixer, and you set the temperature by balancing the two handles. Pair them with a spout over a basin or bath, or with a shower rose in the shower.

Wall taps in this range

  • Meir Round quarter turn: the handles turn a quarter of a circle from off to fully on, so the taps feel quick and light to use.
  • Meir Round cross handle jumper valve: cross handles with a classic look, which turn several times from off to full flow.
  • Meir Circular wall taps: a round, simple handle in the Meir style.
  • ADP Soul Groove: a wall top assembly that matches the Soul Groove basin and wall mixers, with a grooved handle detail.

Quarter turn or jumper valve

Quarter turn taps usually use a ceramic disc inside, which moves quickly and resists wear. Jumper valve taps use a washer on a jumper that seals as you turn the handle down. They give finer control as you open them and are familiar to most plumbers. Both styles work well, and the choice comes down to feel and look. Quarter turn handles suit people who want quick on and off, while cross handles give a heritage look that suits period homes and classic tiles such as subway and encaustic.

Plan the whole set

Choose your wall taps, spout and any shower parts from the same range so the handles and finish match. Most of these taps come in chrome, black, gold and nickel. The Soul Groove taps also come in white and copper. Browse Meir and ADP for matching pieces, or see all tapware. Our tapware is WELS rated and WaterMark certified.

FAQs

Why choose wall taps instead of a mixer?

Wall taps give a classic look and separate hot and cold control. Some people like setting the flow and temperature by hand. They also suit heritage homes and traditional bathroom designs.

What do I need to go with wall top assemblies?

You need a spout or outlet for a basin or bath, or a shower rose and arm for a shower. The taps control the water and the spout or rose delivers it.

What is a jumper valve tap?

It is a traditional tap valve with a washer on a small part called a jumper. Turning the handle presses the washer down to close the tap. It turns several times from off to full flow.

Do quarter turn taps drip less?

Quarter turn taps generally use ceramic discs, which tend to resist wear well. Any tap can need servicing over time, and a plumber can replace a worn washer or cartridge.
