Onyx look porcelain tiles and slabs from the Italian Onice Reale range, in deep blue, black and gold tones, for feature walls, statement floors, vanities and kitchen splashbacks.

The look of onyx in porcelain

Real onyx is a translucent banded stone, prized for bold colour and swirling patterns. It is also soft, fragile and expensive to work with. Onyx look porcelain captures that colour and movement in a tile that is far tougher, needs no sealing and suits floors as well as walls.

This small collection is built around the Italian Onice Reale range:

  • Onice Reale Gemstone: a porcelain floor and wall tile for a feature wall or powder room.
  • Onice Reale Black Diamond: a porcelain floor and wall tile in a darker colourway.
  • Onice Reale tile and slab: the same onyx look in standard tiles and in slab format for benchtops and walls.

Colours across the range span deep blue, black and gold tones. Two of the ranges carry a P3 slip rating for indoor floors.

Where onyx looks best

Onyx is a statement material, so use it where it can be the hero of the room:

  • A full-height wall behind a vanity or freestanding bath.
  • A kitchen splashback or island in slab form, with plain cabinetry around it.
  • A powder room, where a bold pattern fills a small space.
  • An entry floor, laid in large format with tight grout joints.

Keep the rest of the palette quiet. Plain white, black or timber surfaces let the pattern stand out.

Pairing and planning

Because the pattern is strong, plan the layout before you tile. Lay out tiles or check slab images so the veins flow in the direction you want. Brushed brass and gold tapware bring out gold tones, while black fittings suit Black Diamond.

For other statement surfaces, see slab tiles, marble, large format tiles and our full range of Italian tiles. For more bold colour, browse blue tiles and black tiles. If you want help placing a bold feature, book a free design consultation.

FAQs

Are these tiles made from real onyx?

No. They are porcelain with an onyx pattern printed into the surface. That gives you the colour and movement of onyx with the strength and easy care of porcelain.

Can onyx look porcelain be backlit?

No. Real onyx is translucent and is sometimes lit from behind, but porcelain is opaque and light will not pass through it. Use wall washers or LED strips in front of the surface to make the pattern glow.

Can I use an onyx look tile on a floor?

Yes. The Onice Reale ranges are rated for floors and walls, and two carry a P3 slip rating suited to indoor floors. Check the slip rating on each product page before using it in a wet area.

Is an onyx slab suitable for a kitchen benchtop?

Porcelain slabs are used for benchtops, splashbacks and island fronts because they resist heat, stains and scratches. Benchtops need a specialist fabricator to cut and install the slab, so talk to your kitchen maker first.
