Why engineered French oak

Oak has a fine, even grain that takes colour well, so it can be finished pale and Scandinavian or dark and moody. Engineered oak puts a layer of real French oak on top of a stable engineered core. That build moves less with changes in temperature and humidity than solid timber, which makes it a practical choice for apartments, concrete slabs and large open-plan rooms.

Our boards are finished in the factory with a matt UV lacquer. It gives a natural, low-sheen look, and the floor is ready to use as soon as it is laid, with no sanding or coating on site.

Colours from white to carbon

  • Danish White: a pale, washed oak that brightens darker rooms and suits coastal and Scandi interiors.
  • Belfort Oak: a soft, beige-toned oak that sits easily with most kitchens and joinery.
  • French Carbon: a deep charcoal oak for contrast against white walls and black hardware.
  • Danish White and Fiano Brown herringbone: the same oak cut into blocks for a classic patterned floor.

Planks or herringbone?

The 1900 x 190 mm planks are click-lock, so they can float over underlay or be glued down. Long, wide boards mean fewer joins and a calmer floor. The 888 x 148 mm herringbone is glued down and suits entries, living rooms and anywhere you want pattern.

You can use both in one home. Run planks through the bedrooms and herringbone in the living area, in the same Danish White, and the floors will read as one.

Pairing oak with tiles

Timber usually meets tile at the bathroom, laundry or kitchen, so choose them together. Pale oak works with cream tiles, terrazzo and soft travertine. Darker oak suits stone look tiles and matte black tapware.

FAQs

What is engineered oak flooring?

It is a board with a top layer of real oak bonded to a stable engineered core. You see and walk on genuine oak, but the board moves less than solid timber when humidity changes.

Can engineered oak planks be floated?

Yes. Our 1900 x 190 mm click-lock planks can be floated over underlay or glued down. The herringbone blocks are glued down only. Your installer will advise which method suits your subfloor.

How do I look after a matt lacquered oak floor?

Sweep or vacuum regularly and use a damp, well-wrung mop with a cleaner made for lacquered timber. Avoid steam mops and standing water, and put felt pads under chair and table legs.

Which oak colour hides dust and scratches best?

Mid tones such as Belfort Oak are the most forgiving day to day. Very pale floors show dark grit, and very dark floors show dust and light scratches more readily.

How much extra oak flooring should I order?

Allow around 10 to 15 percent extra for offcuts, at the higher end for herringbone and rooms with lots of corners. It is also handy to keep a pack aside for future repairs.
