Terracotta as a colour

This collection is about colour: every tile here has a variant in warm terracotta, from pale clay and sand to burnt orange, rust and brick red. Most are porcelain, with some ceramic and natural stone, so you can get the earthy Mediterranean look on a floor, a splashback or a pool surround. Each tile's other colours stay on its product page.

Shapes and sizes

  • Squares: Alice Red Terracotta at 300 x 300 mm, Sagunto Cotto and Sagunto Mid at 333 x 333 mm, and the Amuri Series in 200 x 200 mm. Alice Red also comes as steptreads for stairs.
  • Brick and subway: Chianti Brick Look at 125 x 250 mm, London Brick and Chelsea Brick Subway at 60 x 250 mm, Alice Red subway at 60 x 240 mm, and the slim Italian Nolita subway at 48 x 450 mm. See all subway tiles.
  • Large porcelain: Barro Terracotta Look comes in bigger floor sizes for a modern take on clay.
  • Handmade and zellige: Zellige Moroccan Square tiles and Zellige Italian Wall Tile give a glossy, uneven glaze. More in zellige tiles.

Natural stone in terracotta tones

Some of the warmest tones come from real stone: Red Travertine squares and subway tiles, Red Rose Marble and Stack Rosso Marble Mosaic. Like all natural stone, these need sealing. The porcelain tiles do not.

Floors, walls and outdoors

Terracotta has a long history underfoot. For indoor floors choose a P3 matt tile. For courtyards, alfresco areas and steps choose grip finishes rated P4 or P5; filter by Slip rating or see outdoor tiles. On walls, gloss terracotta subway and zellige bring warmth to a kitchen splashback.

What goes with terracotta

Terracotta loves natural partners: cream walls, timber, linen and rattan. Pair it with sage green or olive tiles for a garden feel, or with white for a fresh Mediterranean look. Brushed brass and gold tapware bring out the warmth. For deeper tones, see red tiles and brown tiles.

FAQs

Do terracotta coloured tiles need sealing?

The porcelain tiles in this collection do not. The natural stone options, such as red travertine and red marble, should be sealed. Check each product page for the material before you plan your care routine.

What colour grout suits terracotta tiles?

A warm beige or sand grout blends with terracotta and gives a soft, traditional look. A cream or off-white grout shows off brick and subway shapes. Avoid bright white on floors, as it shows dirt quickly against warm tones.

Can terracotta tiles be used outside?

Yes. Choose a porcelain terracotta tile with a Grip or External finish and a P4 or P5 rating for patios, courtyards and steps. The Alice Red Terracotta steptread gives a finished edge on outdoor stairs.

What is a steptread tile?

A steptread is a tile with a rounded or finished front edge made for the nosing of a step. It gives stairs a neat, safe edge without needing a separate trim.

What colours go well with terracotta tiles?

Cream, sage green, olive, soft white and natural timber all sit well with terracotta. For tapware and hardware, brushed brass and bronze warm up the scheme, while matte black gives more contrast.
