Why porcelain is our biggest range

Porcelain is a dense, fine-grained tile fired at very high temperature, so it absorbs almost no water. That makes it hard-wearing, stain resistant and easy to clean, and it never needs sealing. It is the one tile you can run from the shower to the living room and out to the patio.

Most of our porcelain is rated for both floors and walls. You will find it in nearly every look we sell: travertine such as Marvel Travertine Look in vein cut and cross cut, marble, terrazzo, concrete like Micro Cement White Textured, and warm clay looks such as Barro Terracotta.

Sizes and finishes

The most popular sizes are 600 x 600, 600 x 1200 and 300 x 600 mm, with 1200 x 1200 mm and 1200 x 2780 mm for a near-seamless look. Small formats such as kit kat mosaics, 75 x 300 mm subway and 100 x 100 mm squares suit feature walls and splashbacks. See large format tiles for the bigger sizes.

  • Matt: the everyday choice for floors and walls, with soft light and good grip.
  • Grip and External: textured surfaces for patios, pool surrounds and showers.
  • Lappato and polished: a semi-gloss or high-gloss face that reflects light, best kept to walls and dry floors.
  • 3D and textured: carved surfaces for a feature wall.

Slip ratings for floors

Every floor tile lists a slip rating. P3 suits most indoor floors, while P4 and P5 suit showers, ramps, pool surrounds and outdoor tiles. Several ranges come in a matt indoor finish and a grip outdoor finish of the same colour, so the floor reads as one surface from inside to out. Browse anti-slip tiles for more grip options.

Ranges for every budget

Our Builders Range covers hard-working staples such as Republic, Patrone, Polar Ice and Calacatta Vero for renovators and developers; see builder ranges. At the other end, Italian tiles and Spanish tiles bring designer looks and larger sizes. Not sure which way to go? Book a free design consultation and we will help you narrow it down.

FAQs

Is porcelain better than ceramic tile?

Porcelain is denser and absorbs less water, so it is stronger and suits floors, showers and outdoor areas. Ceramic is lighter and easier to cut, which makes it a good choice for walls and splashbacks. For a floor, porcelain is usually the safer pick.

Do porcelain tiles need to be sealed?

No. Porcelain absorbs so little water that the tile itself does not need sealing. Some people choose to seal cement-based grout in busy areas to keep it looking clean.

What is the difference between matt, lappato and polished porcelain?

Matt has no shine and gives the best everyday grip. Lappato is partly polished, so it has a soft sheen with some texture left in the surface. Polished is fully glossy and reflects the most light, so it is better kept to walls and dry indoor floors.

What does rectified mean on a porcelain tile?

A rectified tile has its edges ground after firing so every tile is the same size with sharp, square edges. That allows a narrow grout joint and a cleaner, more modern finish.

Can I use porcelain tiles outside?

Yes, if you choose a tile with an External or Grip finish and a P4 or P5 slip rating. Porcelain is not affected by frost or sun, and it does not need sealing outdoors.
