Yellow tiles in mustard, ochre and gold tones, from glazed mosaics and yellow terrazzo to warm Taj Mahal and Calacatta gold marble looks for feature walls, splashbacks and bathrooms.

Shades of yellow

Yellow in tile falls into two camps. True yellows such as mustard and sunny glazes bring a retro warmth. Golden neutrals are cream and white stones with gold or honey veining, such as Taj Mahal and Calacatta gold looks, which read as warm rather than bright. Many ranges come in several colours, and this page shows each tile's yellow or gold variant.

Materials and looks

  • Glazed tiles and mosaics: Kazoku hand-glazed Japanese mosaics and long subway tiles, Japanese wall tiles, glazed porcelain and finger tiles in mustard and gold. See Kazoku and mosaic tiles.
  • Terrazzo: yellow terrazzo-look porcelain and kit kat terrazzo mosaics. Browse terrazzo tiles.
  • Marble and marble looks: Calacatta gold hexagon, split and honed subway marble, Taj Mahal flute mosaics, and Italian Taj Mahal-look porcelain at 600 x 1200 mm. See marble tiles.
  • Slabs: Caravaggio Gold and Macchia Antica megaslabs at 3200 x 1600 mm for a near-seamless vanity or shower wall. See slab tiles.

Where yellow tiles work

Mustard and sunny glazes make a cheerful kitchen splashback, laundry or powder room. Golden marble looks suit bathrooms and ensuites where you want warmth without a bold colour. Use bright yellow on one surface and keep the rest neutral. Check the slip rating before using any yellow tile on a floor, and seal natural marble after installation. A golden marble-look slab behind a vanity gives a warm, luxurious feel with very few joins, while a yellow kit kat or terrazzo splashback adds a playful touch.

Pairing yellow tiles

Grout: white grout makes mustard glazes pop and suits a retro layout. Cream or warm beige grout blends with golden marble looks.

Tapware: brushed brass and gold echo the gold veins in Taj Mahal and Calacatta gold looks. Chrome gives a crisp, retro contrast with mustard. Brushed nickel is a softer middle ground. Yellow also sits well beside cream tiles, blue and green accents and warm timber.

FAQs

Is mustard yellow a good tile colour for a kitchen?

Yes, as a splashback or feature. Mustard brings warmth and a retro feel, and glazed tiles are easy to wipe clean. Pair it with white or timber cabinetry so it does not overwhelm the room.

What is a Taj Mahal look tile?

Taj Mahal is a warm cream stone with soft gold and honey veining. Taj Mahal-look porcelain copies that pattern in a tile that needs no sealing, and suits floors and walls in large formats.

What colours go with yellow tiles?

White, cream, navy, sage and warm timber all sit well with yellow. For a softer scheme, combine golden marble looks with cream walls and brushed brass fittings.

Can yellow tiles be used on a bathroom floor?

Some can. Glazed mosaics and many wall tiles are not rated for floors, while porcelain marble looks often are. Check the slip rating on each product and choose P3 or higher for a bathroom floor.
