How a wall mixer works

A wall mixer is a single lever on the wall that controls hot and cold water. It sits on an in-wall body, a valve that your plumber builds into the wall before the room is waterproofed and tiled. The visible lever and cover plate are called the trim. Some products here include both parts, and some are the trim kit or the in-wall body only.

What is in this collection

  • Wall mixers: lever and body together, such as the ADP Eternal and Soul Groove wall mixers.
  • Wall basin/bath mixers: a mixer and spout on one plate. Caroma offers Liano II and Riviere in 175 mm and 210 mm, and Contura II in 180 mm and 220 mm.
  • Bath/shower and diverter mixers: to control a shower, a bath or two outlets. See shower mixers for the full set.
  • Trim kits: Caroma Urbane II, Liano II, Riviere and Contura II trims, plus the Liano II sensor wall outlet trims. Meir Round trims come with a standard, paddle or pinless handle, and the Meir Harrington trim kit matches the Harrington basin mixers.
  • In-wall bodies: Meir in-wall mixer and diverter bodies, and the Meir progressive mixer, which comes with body and trim together.

Order the body and the trim

When a title says the in-wall body or trim kit is not included, you need both parts. The body goes in during rough-in, and the trim is fitted at the end. Getting the body depth right matters, so share the product page with your plumber before the walls are sheeted.

Pairing with spouts and basins

If your mixer has no spout of its own, pair it with a wall spout of the right length for your basin or bath. Wall mixers suit wall-hung basins and vessel basins, and keep the benchtop clear. Most come in chrome, gold, nickel and black, and many in gunmetal and bronze. Compare finishes in gold tapware, or browse all tapware. Our tapware is WELS rated and WaterMark certified.

FAQs

What is the difference between a trim kit and an in-wall body?

The in-wall body is the valve hidden inside the wall that mixes the hot and cold water. The trim kit is the lever and cover plate you see and touch. They are often sold separately, and you need both for the mixer to work.

Can I change my wall mixer without retiling?

Often you can replace the trim kit alone if it fits the existing body. Changing to a different brand of body usually means opening the wall. Check compatibility with your plumber first.

What is a progressive mixer?

A progressive mixer uses one lever that turns in a single direction. It starts with cold water and moves through warm to hot as you turn it, which makes the temperature easy to set.

Is a wall mixer better than a basin mixer?

Neither is better, it depends on the basin and look. A wall mixer keeps the bench clear and suits vessel and wall-hung basins. A basin mixer is easier to install and replace because it needs no in-wall body.
