Choosing a towel rail

A towel rail needs to fit the wall and dry your towels properly. A rail that is too short leaves towels bunched up and damp. This collection covers non-heated rails from Caroma and Meir. For warmth and faster drying, see heated towel rails.

Single or double rail

  • Single rails: one bar, for one towel each. They suit narrow walls and a clean, minimal look.
  • Double rails: two parallel bars, so you can hang two towels or fold one over to dry. They suit family bathrooms and walls with more width.

Caroma offers both in several lengths: Contura II in 620 mm and 820 mm, Liano II in 640 mm and 840 mm, Urbane II in 625 mm and 825 mm, and Riviere double rails in 600 mm and 800 mm. Meir offers a Round double rail at 600 mm.

Hand towel and guest rails

Short rails sit beside the vanity for a hand towel. Choose from the Contura II, Liano II and Urbane II hand towel rails, the Meir Round guest rail and the Meir Curvaé 300 mm guest rail. Liano II and Urbane II also make a rail that attaches to a hand wall basin, which keeps the towel right where you wash.

Universal rails

The Caroma Urbane II Universal system comes in straight rails of 400 mm, 600 mm and 800 mm, plus sets that combine a 400 mm rail with a toilet roll holder. It is a flexible way to fit rails to an odd wall width.

Measure before you buy

Allow for the width of a folded bath towel plus some space each side, and check the rail clears doors, the shower screen and light switches. Fix rails into a nogging behind the wall. Match the finish to your robe hooks, toilet roll holders and bathroom shelves, or compare finishes in nickel tapware.

FAQs

What size towel rail do I need?

For a bath towel, a rail of 600 mm or more is the usual choice, and 800 mm or more suits a large towel or two towels side by side. For a hand towel next to the vanity, a short hand towel or guest rail is enough.

Is a double towel rail worth it?

In a shared bathroom, yes. Two bars let you hang more towels in the same wall space, and a towel folded over both bars dries more evenly.

Where should a towel rail go in the bathroom?

Place it near the shower or bath, so you can reach a towel without walking across a wet floor. Mount it at a comfortable height, usually around a metre or a little higher above the floor, and keep it clear of doors and switches.

Are these towel rails heated?

No, this collection is for standard towel rails. Heated towel rails are listed in their own collection.
