Why sample hardware first

Hardware finishes look different on a screen than in your hand. Brushed gold can read warm or cool depending on the light, and gunmetal can look close to black in a dim hallway. Natural stone varies too, with each piece showing its own veining. A sample lets you hold the finish next to your actual tiles, cabinetry and tapware, in your own light, before you commit to a full set.

What you can sample

Samples cover the two families in the Zephra range:

• PVD finish swatches for the steel hardware: Aged Bronze, Brushed Gold, Brushed Nickel, Gunmetal and Matte Black. These finishes are shared by the Knurled, Linear and Luma ranges.
• Stone discs for the stone hardware: Travertine, Silver Travertine, White Onyx, Hermes Grey Marble, Silver Wave Marble and Rosso Levanto.

How to test a finish at home

• Place the swatch on the joinery or door it will go on, in daylight and again under your evening lights.
• Hold it beside your tapware. Metal finishes from different makers can vary, so check the match directly.
• Set stone samples against your benchtop and wall tiles. Look for a stone that matches a vein colour, or one that contrasts on purpose.
• Live with it for a day or two. First impressions often change.

Matching hardware to tiles

Hardware is easiest to choose once the big surfaces are set. If you are still picking tiles, order a tile sample too, or browse our sample packs. Warm stones such as travertine pair naturally with travertine tiles and brushed gold, while greys and blacks suit cooler marble looks.
