A small, specialist range

Driveways ask more of a tile than any other surface, so this is a short, focused collection. It includes:

  • 20 mm porcelain pavers: the Andes Outdoor 20mm Paver, Norrock Series Paver and Tufa X-Cut Paver 600 x 600 x 20 mm. Check each product page for its slip rating.
  • Natural stone crazy pave: Crema Siena Limestone Crazy Pave and Silver Travertine Crazy Pave for an organic, hand-laid look. See crazy pave tiles.
  • Cobbles: Bronte Quartz Offset Cobbles, sheeted at 90 x 90 x 20 mm, for a European laneway feel.
  • Terracotta: Alice Red Terracotta Square 300 x 300 mm and Subway 60 x 240 mm for borders and heritage homes.

The base does the heavy lifting

Whatever you choose, a driveway is only as strong as what is under it. Driveway tiles and pavers are normally bedded onto a reinforced concrete slab designed for vehicles, with a fall for drainage. Smaller pieces such as cobbles, crazy pave and 300 x 300 mm tiles tend to cope better with movement than large formats, which is why they are popular on driveways. Talk to your builder or engineer about the slab, and use an installer who has laid driveways before.

Choosing a look

Match the driveway to the facade and the paths around it. Cool silver travertine and quartz cobbles suit modern and Hamptons-style homes. Warm Crema Siena limestone and red terracotta suit Mediterranean and Federation homes. Carry the same stone or paver along the path tiles to the front door, and around to the patio, for a joined-up look from the street.

Care and maintenance

Natural stone and terracotta should be sealed to help resist oil and tyre marks, then resealed over time. Porcelain does not need sealing. Treat oil spots quickly with a dedicated remover from our stain and haze removers, and keep stone protected with tile sealers. For more thick-format options, browse pavers and pool coping and the wider outdoor tiles range.

FAQs

Can porcelain tiles be used on a driveway?

Yes, if they are thick enough and laid on a properly designed reinforced concrete slab. 20 mm porcelain pavers are the usual choice. Thin indoor tiles are not suitable for vehicles.

Is crazy pave suitable for a driveway?

Yes. Natural stone crazy pave is a traditional driveway finish because the irregular pieces cope well with movement. It must be laid on a solid concrete base and sealed.

What slip rating should driveway tiles have?

Driveways are often sloped and wet, so choose P5 where you can, or at least P4. A textured or natural stone surface also helps tyres and shoes grip.

How do I remove oil stains from a tiled driveway?

Act quickly. Blot fresh oil, then use an oil and grease remover suited to your tile or stone. Sealing natural stone in advance makes oil much easier to lift.
