Balcony tiles for apartments, terraces and upper-level decks: slip-rated porcelain in travertine, stone, concrete and terrazzo looks that carry the living room outside.
FAQs
Do I need strata approval to retile my balcony?
In most apartment buildings, yes. Balcony waterproofing is often common property, so check with your strata manager before you lift any tiles. They may also have rules about tile colour or type.
Can I tile over my existing balcony tiles?
It is not usually recommended. Tiling over adds height at the door, can trap water and hides any failing waterproofing underneath. Most balcony jobs strip the old tiles, check or replace the membrane, then retile.
What slip rating does a balcony need?
An open balcony should have P4 or P5, because upper floors catch rain and wind-blown water. A deep, fully covered balcony that rarely gets wet can use P3.
Why is water pooling on my balcony?
Pooling usually means the falls to the drain are not right, or the outlet is blocked. Fix the falls in the screed before retiling. Very large tiles make falls harder to follow, so 300 x 600 mm or 600 x 600 mm is often easier.
Are 20 mm pavers suitable for a balcony?
Usually not. Most balconies have little height to spare under the door track, and thick pavers add weight. Standard-thickness porcelain glued to a waterproofed, screeded slab is the usual approach, so ask your builder before choosing pavers.
