How To Achieve a Luxurious Bathroom on a Budget

By 15 June 2018March 17th, 2025No Comments

We all enjoy browsing through beautiful images of stunning bathrooms but the truth is – most of us don’t have the budget to turn it into reality when it comes to our homes. Luckily, a small budget doesn’t have to mean your bathroom will look as dull and simple as all others. With a few tricks, you can achieve the high-end look without going over the budget. 1. Stick To One Colour

Even the most casual bathroom will look luxurious if you use one tone throughout. White stands for pure elegance. The easiest thing is to put white cabinets and countertops, as well as white bath linens that will add to the sense of an expensive hotel bathroom. Also, soft white towels and rugs will do the trick and it’s important to use neutral accessories to match them with white linens.

Grey is another possibility; it’s the latest trend among bathroom colours. There are strong reasons for using this colour: firstly, it’s a calming colour; secondly, it’s very easy to match with other colours. Next, shades like greige and warm grey will prevent the bathroom from looking cold and sterile. And lastly, greige is a perfect match with wood. To make the high-end effect complete, use lighting and accessories cleverly.

2. Tiling

Tiling is the quickest way to give your bathroom a polished look. However, it will easily become one of the most expensive steps if you don’t play it smart. Most large stores offer white ceramic tiles, which are a cheaper option and yet still effective, even though final work can seem a bit flat. That’s why it could be a better choice to use colored grout, as it costs the same as white tiles. Another trick is to use a dark tile or large format tile (600×600, 450×900, 1200×600) – they can be cheaper and you will cover the same surface with fewer tiles. A stone look tile is also a luxury item, so if you opt for them, no need to use them across the whole bathroom – few corners with these tiles will create the effect you want.

3. Tile Rug

If you want to go over the top in just one part of the bathroom, let it be the floor – it creates the biggest effect. Instead of adding stone mosaic that will cost you a lot, save money and don’t lose on the luxury by designing a “rug” in front of something attractive. Large format tiles serve best here.

4. Vibrant Colours To Pop Up

If you opted for one dominant colour in the bathroom, a vibrant colour will instantly take it to another level. Choose dark orange or dark turquoise to paint cabinets and shelves – don’t go too far with it. So, you need to choose the accent colour and spread it around the bathroom onto certain items. You can add new life to the room by buying cheap items in the same colour, like towels, mirror frame or a hamper.

5. Use Chrome

Picking a finish for the plumbing fittings doesn’t have to be expensive. Yes, there are a lot of options – you can choose between brass, bronze, nickel and many others, but chrome is often the cheapest. What’s great about chrome is that it’s really simple to maintain it and clean it, but it will fit great in both luxurious and traditional bathrooms. 6. Little Renovations

It’s possible to have a cheap bathroom renovation in a short period of time if you want to introduce minor changes that will add a completely new light to space. For example, upgrading knobs and pulls isn’t expensive – find a simple model matched with nice hardware. Vintage or specialty stores are the places to go to if you need unique but cheap items. Another trick is to apply a little wallpaper with crown molding – it will contribute to the elegant look without too much trouble. Just one accent wall will be enough to get it done. Also, trim accents will level up the plain tile by creating a graphic element in the room – you don’t need a large quantity to make it interesting.

7. Shower Curtains – Why Not?

Instead of installing expensive glass doors in the shower, a shower curtain can have two purposes – it will be far better for your budget and you can use it as a decorative item, depending on the overall style of the bathroom.

All In All

As you can see, not all luxurious things are out of reach. The point is to find cheaper solutions that will create the same effect as the expensive ones. The result will be almost equally amazing.
